RideLondon-Surrey Classic 2014
On 10 August, our team of 15 started out from the Olympic park in the east end of London. Having anxiously watched all week as weather warnings showed hurrican Bertha travelling towards the UK, we hoped this would miss us. Unfortunately, it didn't and on the morning of the event the organisers shortened the route due to safety concerns to 86 miles. The team had never experienced weather like it with torrential rain and severe flooding. However we all safely made it to the finish line within the 9 hour time limit.
We were cycling in aid of The Openwork Foundation in an amazing legacy event created by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Foundation raised £518,000 in 2013 and was able to help over 33,000 disadvantaged children in the Uk and overseas
